Terms of Service

Usage guidelines, rate limits, and data licensing.

Last updated: July 10, 2026. Continued use of GeoAPI.info means you accept these terms.

1. Service Overview

GeoAPI.info ("the Service") is a free geolocation and country data API service. By accessing or using the API, you agree to comply with these Terms of Service.

This service is offered as a contribution to the developer community. Please use it responsibly and respect the rate limits and policies below.

2. Rate Limiting and IP Blocking Policy

IP blocking: The service may block any IP address at its sole discretion, including attempts to circumvent rate limits or behavior harmful to the service.

Rate Limits

Prohibited Activities

The following may result in immediate IP blocking:

Usage is monitored. Suspicious patterns may be blocked even when stated rate limits are not exceeded.

3. Data Availability and Service Reliability

Data is provided "as is" with no guarantees of accuracy, completeness, or availability. The service may be offline, unreliable, or outdated without notice.

Do not rely on this service for critical or emergency use cases.

4. Data Scraping and Automated Collection Policy

Bulk scraping, systematic downloading, or extracting large datasets is prohibited and may result in immediate IP blocking. That includes bots, mirrors, competing warehouses, and automated harvesting of flags or geographic assets.

If you need bulk data, contact the operator instead of scraping. Normal application integration that respects rate limits is permitted and encouraged.

5. Acceptable Use

Use the service only for lawful purposes. You may not use it for illegal activity, unauthorized access, malware or attacks, unauthorized redistribution, harming others, or overwhelming the infrastructure.

6. Intellectual Property and third-party data

The API service, documentation, and underlying technology are protected by intellectual property rights. Free use within these terms does not transfer ownership of third-party datasets.

ISO country and subdivision lists (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Parts of this service—including ISO 3166-1 identifiers such as alpha-3 codes, the official English short name, the numeric country code, and ISO 3166-2 subdivisions from /api/country/subdivisions—are based on data from the world_countries project (Stefan Gabos), used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). The following is a plain-language summary, not legal advice:

Subdivision responses may include an attribution block for convenience; it does not replace your duty to comply when you redistribute or adapt the data.

Other open data in this API

Additional country facts are compiled from datasets in the tradition of samayo/country-json (typically MIT). Flag SVGs under /flags/ come from lipis/flag-icons (MIT). Holiday rules use date-holidays—see that project for its license. IP geolocation fields are supplied by our edge network provider.

7. Privacy and Data Collection

The service may collect IP addresses, request patterns, and usage statistics for security, analytics, and improvement. Personal data is not sold to third parties.

Cookies: This website does not use cookies or client-side tracking technologies.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GeoAPI.info and its operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages from use of the service, including downtime, inaccurate data, financial loss, security incidents, or other damages.

9. Termination

Access may be terminated or suspended immediately, without prior notice, for any reason including breach of these terms.

10. Changes to Terms

These terms may change at any time without prior notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Review them periodically.
